Momentum is building to break apart Facebook. Can this really happen?

I published our next Marketing Companion episode early in order to introduce the show’s new co-host Brooke Sellas. You’ll probably recognize Brooke as a regular contributor to {grow} and her original ideas have appeared here for four years.

Brooke has been a friend, collaborator, and business partner for more than five years and I’m beyond excited to have her join The Marketing Companion as my new co-host.

I’m energized by the new insights and perspectives she’ll bring to the show.

We start off with a bang, covering two very hot topics:

Is it time to break apart Facebook?

Sen Elizabeth Warren is talking about dismantling monopolies such as Google, Amazon and Facebook as a centerpiece of her 2020 presidential bid … and the idea is gaining momentum.

She’s proposing breaking up the biggest tech companies into individual components to spread concentrated power and encourage more competition. So for example, Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp (all owned by Facebook) would become separate companies under her plan.

There are precedents for the government taking such action — breaking up the U.S. telephone monopoly in the 1970s comes to mind. .

Even more interesting, the idea is gaining bi-partisan support. Senator Ted Cruz, Warren’s ideological opposite, agrees that it’s time to take action against these big tech players.

You’re in for an interesting discussion in this episode.

Social media burn-out

Brian Solis has a new book out — Lifescale: How to Live a More Creative, Productive, and Happy Life.

He chronicles how social media burn-out and constant digital distraction ruined his career, his relationships and his health.

Scary stuff, but a reality for millions of people today. More important, Brian discusses a plan to fix things.

In this episode, Brooke and I have opposing views of the impact of digital on our lives and it’s a relevant discussion for us all.

I hope you’ll tune-in!
