Extreme content marketing with Julien Smith

How do you cut through the content marketing clutter?

“Get drunk — very drunk — come up with the craziest idea you can. Then, write about it. This really works.”

Well, at least that’s the advice of Julien Smith, one of the brightest and most provocative writers, intellects, and innovators on the social web today.  He’s perhaps best known as a pioneering podcaster and blogger, the co-author of a couple of books with Chris Brogan (including the seminal Trust Agents), and the mind behind the best-selling book The Flinch.

I’ve long-admired Julien and on my recent trip to his home town of Montreal I was pleased to be able to have breakfast with this amazing guy. We talked about “pushing content to the edge” and he was gracious enough to hang around for a short video interview where we explored some of the ideas from our conversation, including staying centered when the haters show up and Julien’s 10-10-10 rule about handling content risk.

In this short video, Julien also talks about his latest venture, Breather — a rent-as-you-go place to relax and work in large cities. Be sure to check out this interview and let me know what you think about his ideas in the comment section below.
